Gryffindor

Gryffindor is one of the four Houses of Hogwarts, the other three being: Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin.

All new students are sorted by the sorting hat into one of the four houses when they first arrive at Hogwarts based on their characteristics and virtues.

The virtues of a Gryffindor student are courage, nerve and chivalry above all else. It is portrayed by a lion and the colours scarlet and gold. Nearly Headless Nick is the houses’ ghost and Professor McGonagall is the house professor.

Gordric Gryffindor

Gordric Gryffindor was the founder of Gryffindor House. He was from a small village in the West Country called Gordric’s Hollow.

He praised courage, determination and strength of heart and selected students based on daring and bravery.

His two relics were a goblin-made sword and the sorting hat. If ever a Gryffindor student was truly in trouble they would be able to pull the sword from the hat!
