Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Plot Outline

In the beginning…

Harry and Dudley Dursley are out one day when they are attacked by Dementors, Harry has to use magic underage to save them. Order of the Phoenix members quickly arrive to escort Harry Potter to their secret headquarters at the Black family home. The Weasley’s, Hermione Granger and Harry’s Godfather Sirius Black are all already their. Harry learns that Voldemort is amassing an army and is searching for a weapon. A few days later Harry is escorted by Mr Weasley to his hearing (for having used magic underage), he is cleared with the help of Dumbledore and his neighbour who witnessed events.

When they return to Hogwarts, Hermione and Ron are named prefects. They are also suprised to discover that Dolores Umbridge has been appointed as the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. Umbridge teaches only ministry approved theory and no actual practical spells. She is soon appointed as ‘High Inquisitor’ and brings in strict rules and regulations.

Harry has disturbing dreams about running through the corridors of the Ministry of Magic. He also dreams that he is a snake attacking Mr Weasley. Mr Weasley is indeed found injured with multiple snake wounds. Harry begins to worry that he is being possessed by Voldemort and Dumbledore suggest he take Occlumency lessons from Snape to try and close the connection between Harry and Voldemort.

Dumbledore’s Army

Hermione manages to persuade Harry that he needs to teach willing students the spells that they are now not learning in their Defence Against the Dark Arts lessons. Harry is unsure at first but then embraces the role of teacher as many students appear supporting Harry. They call the group Dumbledore’s Army in mockery of the Ministry of Magic who fear Dumbledore may be creating an army of student wizards. When Umbridge finds out about the group Dumbledore takes the blame so the students are not punished.

Umbridge is appointed headmistress and imposes even stricter regulations. The Weasley twins are increasingly fed up and bored of school and decide to disrupt an exam with some of their joke spells. They cause many, many firecrackers to go off in the exam hall and all around Hogwarts. They are caught but fly off and leave the school forever to start their own very successful joke shop.

Harry has a vision that Sirius is being tortured in the Department of Mysteries, although Hermione fears it may be a trap they try to go after him. They are initially caught by Umbridge but manage to escape from her in the Forbidden Forest and fly off to the Ministry of Magic with Ron, Neville, Ginny and Luna.

The Order of the Phoenix

When they arrive at the Department of Mysteries they are ambushed by Death Eaters. They fight bravely but are outnumbered. Fortunately Order of the Phoenix members arrive just in time and are able to fight off the Death Eaters. During the battle the prophecy that Voldemort is after is destroyed and Harry’s Godfather Sirius Black is killed by his cousin Bellatrix Lestrange.

All the Death Eaters escape apart from Bellatrix who Harry chases. When he finds her, Voldemort appears and attacks Harry but he is saved by Dumbledore.
