Hermione Granger is another of the main characters in the Harry Potter stories. She meets Harry and Ron on the train to Hogwarts in the first book and after an initial dislike they all become best friends.
Hermione is an integral part of the successes of the trio as she is the most academic and is able to help out with researching and planning as well as being superior at potion making and spell casting (though not as naturally talented as Harry - harder working).
Her parents are both Muggles (humans) meaning that some wizards, especially the darker wizards, looked down upon her. It is possibly for this reason that she stretched herself to become one of the most academically successful of the young wizards at Hogwarts.
Hermione is also the most compassionate of the trio and helps to ensure everything they do is for the greater good.
Even as early as the first book it is clear there is a mutual attraction between Hermione and Ron, and this only grows stronger as the stories progress (although with occasional fallouts).
